I have never attended a SAOIM conference before and I am looking forward to broadening my knowledge and networking with information specialists from all over SA as well as Kenya, Zimbabwe and the United States and the United Kingdom.
This year the Organisation of SA law libraries (Osall) has invited a speaker, Verine Etsebeth, from Wits law school to speak about online sharing from a legal point of view. Verine’s slot is on Thursday 5 June in the morning. I recently attended a workshop on the Protection of Personal Information Act given by Verine, who is a senior lecturer and specialises in information security and data protection law, and it was very useful.
Another legal topic is VAT on e-commerce by Carmen Holdstock, a director of Cliffe Dekker Hofmeyr on the 4th of June and this will be interesting as VAT will be charged from next month.
Last but not least, there is the social get together at the Barnyard Parkview (see the Social Function page)on the evening of 4 June in Pretoria East.
